Tough step: Musk angry about new EU law: Withdraw from X?

class=”sc-29f61514-0 icZBHN”>

Is Elon Musk withdrawing Platform X from the EU?

Due to the new EU digital law DSA, Elon Musk apparently wants to withdraw his online platform X (formerly Twitter) from the European Union.

The tech billionaire is unhappy with the law, as the website “Business Insider” wrote, citing a person familiar with the company. The DSA obliges online platforms to delete illegal content such as hate speech. That’s why Musk is reportedly ready to take a radical step to exempt Twitter successor X from the rules.

The EU Commission has already sent questions to X

The DSA Act (Digital Services Act) requires major online platforms to take consistent and rapid action against hate speech, among other things. X recently received a list of questions from the EU Commission, which wanted to find out more about how the service fulfills its obligations.

This was evidenced by the spread of calls for violence and misinformation following the Islamist Hamas attack on Israel. EU Commissioner Thierry Breton also cited, among other things, reports of manipulated footage and recordings from video games disguised as real recordings. Musk showed that he did not understand the questions. DSA violations result in high penalties.

Musk wants to block access

According to Business Insider, Musk discussed making X no longer available in the EU or blocking access for users in the region. Musk laid off more than half of his workforce after acquiring Twitter for approximately $44 billion. Teams responsible for content moderation were also severely affected. The tech billionaire, who represents political views on the American right, claimed that Twitter placed too many restrictions on freedom of expression before its takeover.

Musk did not initially respond to the report, and X usually answers press questions with a brief sentence that they are busy at the moment. “Business Insider” wrote that after the acquisition, he proposed reducing the service to the US only to save costs. (SDA)
