Premium reductions of over 1.2 billion francs will be provided in the canton of Zurich in 2024. (symbol image)

In 2022, this amount was still below the billion mark. The government council set the cantonal contribution rate at 92 percent, it announced on Thursday. The canton pays slightly less than half, the rest is covered by the federal government. The Police Department is also providing $68.6 million to temporary adoptees and refugees from Ukraine.

684 million francs will be allocated for individual premium reductions, and 462 million francs will be allocated for people receiving additional benefits or social assistance. 52 million was allocated as certificate of loss compensation to health insurance holders.

Due to a system change decided by the cantonal council, contributions are temporary since 2021, as stated by the government council. The claim will be checked after the final tax assessment is received. It’s possible for people to get more or have to pay some of the money back.
