Niklas Nikolajsen, 48, founder of Bitcoin Suisse, displayed some eccentric behavior with his crypto millions. The owner of the most expensive car number in Switzerland, or St., also known as Salesianum, listed in Zug in 2018. He bought Karlshof and has since called himself Niklas Nikolajsen von Karlshof.
Now the native Danish goes one step further. He announced on Instagram that a national celebration on August 1 deserves a hearty fireworks display. And it appears in front of huge boxes with fireworks. Nikolajsen wants to launch 35 tons into the sky on August 1. And to that end, he puts three 500 square meters of pallets in front of the Salesianum on Lake Zug.
No fireworks went off in Zug on August 1. At the lake festival at the end of June, there was usually a fireworks display. However, this was canceled in 2023 and was replaced by the “Zug Magic” water show, which has been running every evening since 1 July and will continue until 29 July. It is financially supported by the city of Zug.
At Blick’s request, the city of Zug says: “The fireworks will go up as part of a private party by Niklas Nikolajsen.” The municipality of Zug had to obtain permission for the party because, among other things, the city’s noise regulations were affected. The Canton of Zug is responsible for the approval of fireworks detonated on pallets on the lake. Zug police have given permission for a temporary platform to be moored in Lake Zug. The Zug building insurance company granted permission for the massive fireworks display.
Although the fireworks arouse interest: it’s not really pretty. Zug Tourism Managing Director Dominic Keller (47) says: “We didn’t need fireworks. We think sustainability is important and we pushed Zug Magic.» There was not even a gastronomic offer, so as not to compete with the local gastronomy.
Keller makes no criticism of Nikolajsen’s fireworks. But one thing is clear: the assertion of sustainability at the celebration – there will be only one fire on August 1 – does not correspond to the endorsement of mega fireworks. At least in Zug there is no severe drought as a result of recent rainy days. In other cantons, for example in Valais at this time, fireworks are prohibited. Also, a special committee is collecting signatures for a fireworks initiative that wants to stop private fireworks.
So everything is green? The people of Zug should rejoice at the fireworks, and even get angry at times. One thing is clear: the fireworks and Niklas Nikolajsen’s party are not part of the official August 1 celebrations in the city of Zug. “The city of Zug supports sustainable solutions, such as the water and multimedia program Zug Magic,” says a spokesperson.
This is inevitably overshadowed by Nikolajsen’s 10:30 p.m. fireworks. By the way, this not only celebrates August 1, but also celebrates the completion of four years of renovation work at Salesanium and the “hopefully naturalization of a new, small Swiss family”. By that he probably means himself and his family. Is she doing a service with fireworks?
