130 Swiss credit cards reviewed: How much can you save with credit cards?

The savings potential with credit cards is very high! In a study on Tuesday, Moneyland calculated that occasional users could save around CHF 550 in the first two years of their contract by switching from the most expensive credit card to the cheapest. The savings potential for frequent users is even more than 860 francs.

Best suited for occasional users: cashback credit cards Swisscard Cashback Card Amex and Poinz Swiss Loyalty Card. With both cards, the refund exceeds the costs – users even get the money back. The comparison service for this target group assumes purchases of 200 francs per month in Germany and 1,000 euros per year abroad.

Migros Cumulus credit card with 16.70 francs and Spar Mastercard World with 37.40 francs take the third and fourth places. According to Moneyland, the cheapest credit cards are those with no annual fees. Costs will arise from fees and euro-franc exchange rates.

For abroad: Credit card from Coop or Migros

For users abroad, two major retailers are ahead with their offerings. Here Moneyland undertakes purchases of 5,000 euros and cash withdrawals of 1,000 euros annually abroad. Migros Cumulus Visa credit card is the cheapest in two years with CHF 261.75, followed by Visa or Mastercard’s Coop Supercard credit card with CHF 440.45.

Migros card also ranks first among frequent users (1,000 CHF per month in Switzerland and 5,000 CHF per year abroad), followed by American Express, cash back credit cards from Swisscard and Poinz Swiss Loyalty.

In general, Moneyland recommends paying abroad in local currency rather than Swiss francs and using a debit or neobank card for cash withdrawal. Also, many card providers now offer insurance, so you can save money here too. (SDA/kae)
