In a statement released Tuesday, Moneyland noted that cards from neo-banks, which operate entirely digitally, are often significantly cheaper for purchases abroad than most credit cards of conventional banks.
However, cheap is not the same as cheap. A survey of two user profiles resulted in annual costs ranging from CHF 57 to CHF 318 respectively. 51 to 281 francs.
Two user profiles were compared: a person who uses the card for a certain number of shopping and cash withdrawal transactions in Germany and abroad, and a person who also uses the account as a salary account and pays bills with this account. In the first profile, Neon and Revolut performed best in the test, while in the second profile Yuh (Swissquote and Postfinance) is just ahead of Neon. Various quotes from CSX (Credit Suisse), Wise, Yapeal and Zak (Bank Clerk) were also included in the comparison.
There are also differences in transparency, according to the information: Revolut is particularly underperforming here, according to Moneyland. For example, Swiss terms are not communicated transparently and can sometimes only be collected through an app.
