Airports and Switzerland advice: Top tips for a stress-free departure for the holidays

Summer vacation is the start of the main travel season at Swiss airports. Zurich-Kloten expects busy days with more than 100,000 passengers per day. Basel-Mulhouse Airport expects a “very high number of passengers” and therefore “urgently” recommends arriving at Euroairport early. But what exactly does “early” mean?

Tips from Zurich and Basel-Mulhouse airports:

• Transport: Arrive at the airport at least 2 hours, better 3 hours before departure; Anyone arriving by car should check and reserve capacities, especially at Euroairport (on the website).
• Documentation: Clarify if the ID card is sufficient or if a passport and perhaps a visa are required.
• Entrance: Use online check-in and, if possible, the night before check-in and baggage claim machines.
• Luggage: Never leave your luggage alone. Basel-Mulhouse warns that otherwise the terminal could be evacuated and fines of up to 450 euros could be imposed.
• Opening hours: Pay attention to the opening hours of the check-in counter – especially in the morning. Check-in opens at 4 am at the latest.
• Hand luggage control: What is allowed? The Zurich Airport website has a convenient search function.
• Security check: Put the liquids in a 1 liter clear plastic bag in advance, it can be used for laptop, cell phone, e-cigarette etc.

Swiss advises its passengers to download the digital travel companion “Swiss App”. Those who sign up with a personal “Travel ID” enjoy more benefits (save preferred seats, special offers and more).
