Save money with Easyjet or would you rather fly Swiss? The choice is big. There are more than 1500 airlines worldwide. Which performs best for passengers? British consulting firm Skytrax explores this question every year.
In the latest ranking, passengers polled by Skytrax have now pushed Swiss airline Swiss out of the top 10. Switzerland ranks 12th in 2023. New to the top 10 are Hong Kong-based Cathay Pacific Airways and Taiwan’s EVA Air. The latter, like Swiss, belongs to the Star Alliance, which is honored as the best airline alliance. Lufthansa, the Swiss parent and Star Alliance co-founder, also dropped a few places from 15th to 21st.
Rank 2023 | airline | Rank 2022 |
one | Singapore Airlines | 2 |
2 | Qatar airlines | one |
3 | ANA All Nippon Airlines | 4 |
4 | emirates | 3 |
5 | Japan Airlines | 6 |
6 | Turkish Airlines | 7 |
7 | AirFrance | 8. |
8. | Cathay Pacific Airlines | 16 |
9 | EVA Air | 18 |
10 | korean weather | 9 |
11th | Hainan Airlines | 14 |
12 | Swiss International Airlines | 10 |
Skytrax evaluates a wide range of airlines for its “Airline Awards”. And there is one thing that makes Swiss stand out in particular: Swiss has moved up to 4th place among the best first class airlines. In all subcategories such as first class lounge or catering, Switzerland is among the top ten.
Swiss ranked 18th in Business Class and 17th in Premium Economy Class.
Switzerland is also one of the cleanest airlines and ranks 14th in this category, which doesn’t make it the cleanest airline in Europe. This is Finland’s Finnair – 11th in the world.
Apart from that, Switzerland is only once again in the top 10 with the best flight personnel in Europe. There, Switzerland took third place behind Austrian Airlines and Air France. In light of recent developments, this seems almost ironic: At the end of May, the Swiss cabin crew terminated the collective bargaining agreement (GAV) effective at the end of April 2024. So the flight crew is not happy with the working conditions, but they still seem to be doing their job well.
Skytrax has also looked closely at low-cost airlines. At the top is AirAsia. British airlines Easyjet (rank 11) and Ryanair (rank 13) entered the top 20. Eurowings, also a Lufthansa subsidiary, took 19th place.
Swiss sibling Edelweiss is nowhere to be seen in the airline awards.
