Rapper Coolio died unexpectedly in September 2022 at just 59 years old. He previously collapsed in a friend’s bathroom and was then unsuccessfully resuscitated by rescuers for 45 minutes. The assumption at the time: the musician may have died of a heart attack. Now it comes true: Coolio did not die of natural causes.
A spokesperson shed light on the TMZ portal in a statement: The American died of a fentanyl overdose. His family only recently received the corresponding notice from the coroner’s office.
Fentanyl is a man-made opioid. It was first produced in the 1960s and has an analgesic effect. The drug is a hundred times stronger than morphine. Fentanyl is causing a real drug crisis in the US.
In addition to the extremely dangerous opioid fentanyl, traces of crystal meth and heroin were also found in his body. In addition, his severe asthma and decades of cigarette use played a role in his death. His body was also unable to defend itself as a result, the report continues. However, the spokesperson stressed that his children will remember their father as a great man.
Initially, consistent media reports said that Coolio had died of natural causes. Paramedics and family sources said no drugs were found at the scene of his accident and heart failure was the most likely cause of death.
Coolio left six children. As a rapper, he was especially successful in the 1990s. One of his biggest hits was the song “Gangsta’s Paradise” from the album of the same name. He has sold more than 17 million records worldwide.
