At the age of 93, as fit as a 40-year-old: this normal man shows how you too can age healthily

If you are wealthy and can therefore take better care of your health in daily life, you will remain healthier as you get older. Many studies have already proven this fact. Now the case of a 93-year-old Irishman shows that we, normal people, can also age healthily. According to researchers, Richard Morgan has the body of a healthy 40-year-old.

But what is actually important? This is exactly what scientists have now investigated with the help of Morgan and published their results in the Journal of Applied Physiology. The good news: the Irishman only started exercising regularly when he was 73. The bad news is he’s been using it every day since.

Morgan was examined in the physiology laboratory at the University of Limerick. “It was one of the most inspiring days I have ever spent in the laboratory,” health professor Philip Jakeman told the Washington Post. During the examination, his heart responded like that of a 30 to 40 year old man. It immediately increased heart rate under stress, reaching its maximum of more than 150 beats per minute – a record, the researchers say.

Morgan also has a body fat percentage of 15 percent. Surprising for his age, but far from that of a professional athlete. In short, the former baker is actually a completely normal, very healthy old man. It is clear to the researchers: Morgan shows what each of us can achieve.

Morgan’s training and nutrition plan is simple. First and foremost, the scientists mention consistency. On average, Irish people row for about 40 minutes every day. He makes sure to alternate between easy, medium and intense intervals.

The Irishman also does strength training. He limits himself to simple exercises and light weights. Nevertheless, he trains until his muscles tire. When it comes to his diet, he pays particular attention to consuming plenty of protein. He clearly exceeds the recommended dose of 60 grams per day.

“There is clear evidence that the human body can adapt to exercise at any age,” Scott Trappe, who coaches several athletes as they age, told the American newspaper. The myth that we inevitably succumb to physical decline as we age has been clearly debunked. (lion)
