This is an axiom: black is a color that transcends seasons, time and color types – it will suit every skin tone. “Black slims and adds sophistication to any outfit,” says stylist Jo Manktelow-Pimm. But the best thing about black, according to the expert, is something else: it’s a blank canvas. “Add bright accents or accessories to make a black outfit stand out,” says Joe.

Do you think black is too contrasting a color for you? Try dark gray – it can be a great alternative. “Charcoal gray has more volume and always looks luxurious, regardless of the quality of the fabric,” says stylist Carol Davidson.

According to stylist Rosie Mangiarotti, charcoal gray is versatile: “Suits and blazers in this color work well for formal events or for a casual look with jeans,” she says. Manktelow-Pimm notes that taupe looks great with pale pink, baby blue and burgundy, but recommends trying monochromatic variations, pairing deep charcoal with lighter shades of gray.

According to Jared McCullough, ivory is a cross between bright white, which suits cool skin tones, and cream, which brightens warm skin tones. Rosie agrees: “Ivory creates a subtle contrast against darker skin tones and adds a bit of warmth to lighter tones,” she says.

According to Carol, navy isn’t just versatile: it’s also flattering on mature skin, slimming and blends well with other colors. Davidson recommends combining navy blue with white, beige or gray – she believes this will help add sophistication to the outfit.

According to fashion designer Jamie King, camel hair color looks great on all women regardless of skin type. Manktelow-Pimm agrees: “This warm, neutral brown shade will add radiance to any complexion. Plus, it’s great for both casual and business environments,” he says.
