Endurance or strength training?: These sports burn the most calories

Basically, it’s important to burn more calories than you consume to lose weight and stay fit. Depending on the type, exercise and sports can consume a lot of energy.

The amount of calories burned depends on three things: your weight, type of exercise and intensity. But what makes the most sense to lose body weight as sustainably as possible but still quickly?

One thing can already be said: the harder you push yourself, the greater the fat burning and therefore the fat loss. Of course, you should not exceed your own stress limit. Three sports are ideal for this.

To swim

Swimming is an ideal sport to supplement your fitness regimen to lose body fat and improve your health. Endurance training in water improves your physical condition, strengthens your cardiovascular system and therefore your immune system.

In the water, you work more muscle groups at the same time. Just like running, swimming strengthens your leg and hip muscles. However, especially the arm, shoulder, chest and back muscles benefit more from water training than running.

Thanks to the high water resistance and the adaptation of the body to the lower water temperature, more calories are burned and the metabolism is activated. That’s why swimming is so effective.

At the same time, swimming is one of the most gentle sports for the joints, because the pressure on the ligaments and joints is about 90 percent less than on land. Therefore, swimming is particularly suitable as an ideal sport for overweight people.

Swimming movements release stubborn tension in the neck and neck. The rhythmic movements in the water and the so-called weightlessness also provide a reduction of stress hormones and thus general relaxation. Half an hour of swimming (crawling style) burns about 350 kilocalories.

cycling

Cycling has become an endurance sport for young and old alike in recent years. Since up to 80 percent of the body weight is on the saddle, it does not tire the joints and is therefore especially suitable for beginners.

Hardly any sport can be said to be as good as cycling. First of all, the cardiovascular system, which is the transport system of the body, is trained. In addition, many other muscle groups are strengthened.

Cycling is the optimal form of endurance training. It also gently stimulates the heart and circulation. In addition, the lungs are activated or strengthened, whole body respiration is stimulated and the vegetative nervous system is positively affected.

Anyone who rides a bike does something good for their leg muscles, just like swimming. A wide variety of leg muscles are used while cycling. The spine is not overworked, which protects it from wear and tear and strengthens the spine as the muscles of the trunk, neck, shoulders and arms have to do a lot of holding work for the back.

The fun factor is also very high when cycling. You get to experience a beautiful nature, enjoy the speed and maybe get an incentive from group training. Average calorie consumption at a speed of about 15 km/h is 120 to 200 kilocalories per hour.

Running

When it comes to endurance and fitness training, running remains one of the most effective sports. Basically, if you want to run you only need two things: your shoes and your motivation!

As a beginner, of course, you shouldn’t just sprint, otherwise you’ll soon be out of breath and lose your motivation. You should run a little slower in the beginning, but keep your pace steady over a longer distance.

The calories expended for 6:20 minutes of brisk jogging per kilometer is about 385 kilocalories. Running also stimulates the afterburn effect, which means that calories are burned even hours after running.
