Stephen King can also be different: horror legend deals out against one of the biggest series hypes of the moment

After four seasons with a total of 39 episodes, “Succession” came to an end last weekend (the finale can also be seen in Germany via Sky and the WOW streaming service). For many, the eclectic long finale was a worthy conclusion to one of the best series of recent years.

But even with such gigantic hypes, which everyone seems to agree on, there are prominent dissenting voices. The famous after the end of “Succession” asked the provocative question “Why did we even care?” in a cup. The article itself deals with the appeal of the series in a rather differentiated way, but concludes that the events and the outrageous discussions about them weren’t really relevant in the end (but of course we don’t want spoilers on the finale itself at this point).

And Stephen King saw the hook of the New York Times article as an opportunity to give his two cents back to a series. But while he’s mostly spoken out on social media so far to celebrate and recommend titles he loves (in the recent past, “Manifest,” “Kaleidoskop,” and “From” among others), the horror pope now makes an unusually negative judgment in the case of “succession” of all things …

Stephen King doesn’t care about “Succession”.

As a somewhat harsh response to the New York Times headline quoted above (it prefaces “Here’s Some News for You”) King wrote on Twitter that there are many who don’t care about “Success,” including himself. It is not clear from the tweet whether he simply has no interest in the series in general or whether he actually watched it and only then came to this assessment.

Especially in the former case, it’s all the more amazing that King even commented on the HBO series. But maybe that was just his way of saying that you don’t have to buy into every big hype, after all “Succession” is one of THE most celebrated series of the moment. It remains to be seen whether an explanatory tweet will follow.

Until then, you can either look forward to the finale of the story about media magnate Logan Roy (Brian Cox) and the intriguing search for his successor – or, like King, just ignore it.
