In conversation with the magazine Francesca Orci, who is responsible for all “Drama” productions at HBO, gave an update on “Game Of Thrones” plans, especially the upcoming spin-off “A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight.”
Based on the fantasy stories The Hedge Knight and The Adventures of Dunk & Egg by George R.R. Martin, this tells the story of knight Ser Duncan the Tall (aka Dunk) and his young squire Aegon (aka Egg), who later became Westeros will form as Aegon V Targaryen. The scripts for the first season were supposed to be in writing, but due to the current writers’ strike in Hollywood, this work is on hold. Nevertheless, it will be the next spin-off, although there is already a clear plan.
Three minor seasons with less epic for “The Hedge Knight”
Francesca Orci confirms hints author Martin made a while ago: A total of three seasons of The Hedge Knight are being produced. Each season will adapt one of the novellas. The first season the eponymous “The Hedge Knight” (“Der Heckenritter”), the second season after that “The Sworn Sword” and season 3 “The Mystery Knight”. The seasons appear on an annual basis.
In Germany, all novellas are available in the anthology “The Hedge Knight of Westeros: The Judgment of the Seven”:
After Martin last talked about six episodes per season, Orci now only explained: that the sequence will be less than “House of the Dragon” And “Game of Thrones“. It’s not just about the scope.
The series won’t be as CGI-heavy because there are no dragons, for example. The events take place in fewer locations, everything is smaller and more intimate. The series can therefore be produced much fasterso that with “House Of The Dragon” they don’t get in each other’s way and become a different viewing experience.
“The Hedge Knight”: 3 seasons are not necessarily the end
Even though “only” three seasons are initially planned for “The Hedge Knight”, the series doesn’t have to end after that. “Of course” you want more. As is known, Martin is thinking about further novellas. If he wanted to write these at some point, they would be happy to consider them. Right now you only think about the three seasons.
Orci wanted to talk to how other “Game Of Thrones” projects will continue but then don’t tell. These are currently still at such an early stage that it is not yet clear whether they will actually be implemented. So is the main series sequel starring Kit Harrington as Jon Snow. They are still working on getting them to give the green light, but they can’t promise that at the moment.
As is well known, HBO develops numerous “Game Of Thrones” ideas in parallel, of which only a few are actually pursued and implemented.
