With 43 inches, the Samsung QN90B currently costs only 669 euros at Amazon. According to Geizhals.de, the 4K TV of this size has never been cheaper. You pay for the 55-inch model 895 euros*. Here you save more than 100 euros compared to the regular price.
Samsung QN90B: refresh rate up to 144 Hz
Unlike many other 4K TVs, there are distinct differences between the two formats that can be crucial depending on your needs. The smaller model offers a refresh rate of up to 144 Hz. This makes the 43-incher not only suitable for streaming and sports broadcasts, but also for gaming with a powerful gaming PC.
On the other hand, the 55-inch variant of the QN90B scores with a higher peak brightness. This model is therefore ideal if you like to watch films, series and sports broadcasts in daylight. But thanks to 120 Hz and four HDMI 2.1 inputs, the 55-incher is also perfect for gaming with a NextGen console such as the Playstation 5 or the Xbox Series X.
Otherwise, both sizes are almost identical except for the base. Both have a QLED display, which is ultimately nothing more than an LCD panel with an extended mini-LED backlight and quantum dot color enhancement. In addition, there are many dimming zones, which allow very good darkening of individual image areas.
This brings the QN90B close to the image quality of high-quality OLED TVs. In terms of peak brightness, it even surpasses the technology of the competition. Good OLED TVs are only ahead when it comes to contrast and black levels, as every single pixel is controlled and turned off there, allowing for a clearer distinction between them.
That’s why the QN90B is a good OLED alternative
However, it must be said that with the Samsung TV we are still complaining at a very high level. The differences are marginal, making the QN90B a good alternative if you want to save a few hundred dollars over an equivalent OLED TV.
The biggest point of criticism of Samsung TVs cannot simply be brushed aside with the QN90B. Dolby Vision is not supported. This HDR format is standard for most streaming services. So if you have a 4K subscription to Netflix, the Samsung TV will ‘only’ play this content in HDR10 format. The QN90B unleashes its full potential in movies and series in HDR10+. You will find this format mainly in Amazon Prime Video’s own productions.
LG OLED CS9: the first alternative to the Samsung QLED TV
The first alternative to the Samsung QN90B is the LG OLED CS9. Thanks to the OLED display, the mid-range model from LG convinces with strong black levels and better contrast than the Samsung TV. The CS9 is currently available with 55 inches Amazon*, Media Markt* And Saturn* for 999 euros.
Another plus of the LG OLED CS9 is the Dolby Vision support, which makes it especially interesting for streaming fans. Because, as mentioned, most streaming services, with the exception of Amazon Prime Video, use Dolby Vision as standard. On the other hand, the Samsung TV has clear advantages over the C2 in terms of brightness.
