The first editions of the first four novels of the Peruvian writer and winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature, Mario Vargas Llosa, will be declared the nation’s cultural heritage by the National Library of Peru (BNP), the state agency Andina reported.
“to represent first editions which belonged, three of them, to the collection Raul Porras of Barreneche (1897-1960), who was prof Vargas Llosa“, said BNP leader Fabiola Vergara Andina.
Relevance of author, work, publication and own copies turned the first publications “Los jefes” (1957), “La ciudad y los perros” (1963), “La casa verde” (1966) and “Los puppies” (1967) into the cultural heritage of Peru, as explained by the historian BNP- and, Rubén Robles.
In the case of “Los jefes”, it is the release before published in 1959 that Vargas Llosa dedicated to Barreneche, who was also Peru’s foreign minister, essayist and professor.
“It is a special case, it came out as a print from a magazine Peruvian Mercuryof which only 50 copies were published, and Vargas Llosa (21) distributed them to his acquaintances,” explained Robles.
This is the first time GNP declares the works of a living author as a national asset, emphasized the leader of the BNP.
Vergara pointed out that they worked and discovered peculiarities of the work more contemporary ones that highlight the authors and that facilitate dialogue with young people.
In this sense, he expressed his willingness to declare the works of the poet S XIX century José María Eguren and Cesar Vallejo.
