Lenny Kravitz and Billie Eilish perform for free in Paris – for the climate

Normally you have to pay a lot of money to see them perform on stage – the superstars of the music scene like Lenny Kravitz, Billie Eilish or HER. But on June 22, a ticket to Paris is enough, which may even be cheaper than a concert ticket.

Because on June 22, music greats will give a free concert in front of the Eiffel Tower, together with the non-profit advocacy organization Global Citizen. The aim of the event: to convince world leaders to take further action on climate change.

“Power Our Planet: Live in Paris” is the name of the party. The date coincides with a summit of politicians and business leaders who will then discuss strategies to help developing countries fund sustainability projects.

Global Citizen CEO Hugh Evans told The Associated Press (AP) that the summit is an opportunity for governments and global banks to boost climate projects stalled by the COVID-19 pandemic. He also hopes that the concert will encourage heads of state and government to make the $16.7 billion in outstanding climate finance available to low-wage countries – the money had already been pledged in 2009.

Another goal of Global Citizen is to advance the reform of the World Bank to provide up to $1 trillion in additional funding.

The Eiffel Tower event is part of the Global Citizen initiative. Global Citizen has been organizing top concerts in New York’s Central Park for years and says it has already succeeded in getting artists to mobilize their fans.
