The renewed Opel Corsa: Biggest problem solved now?

The renewed Opel Corsa: Biggest problem solved now?

It has been more than forty years since the first Opel Corsa rolled off the assembly line. The car has become one of the most popular models of the brand. The Corsa F was presented in 2019 and is now an innovation.

The facelift version of the Corsa can be recognized by a new rear end and the modern headlights, which are used again in other Opel models. For example, the new Astra is already equipped with the new family face. A sleek design that hides the lighting (now standard LED), sensors and cameras behind a dark bezel. Kind of like a visor. Opel therefore calls this design the Vizor design. In addition, Opel also seems to be susceptible to trends from the automotive world. Much will be written about the boot lid from now on at Corsa, as we see it on more brands today.

The renewed Opel Corsa is now equipped with a 48V system

However, the most important changes compared to the previous Opel Corsa are under the skin. For example, the facelift models are equipped with mild hybrid-Technology. Although many brands already include this as standard in their petrol cars, this is the first Opel with the 48V system.

Even more electrical news about the renewed Opel Corsa. The Corsa-e, which we drove as an endurance test, is also getting an update. Not only does the electric variant now go through life as the Corsa Electric, the performance also increases to 156 hp and 260 Nm. In addition, the range of the electric vehicle will improve. The electric Corsa now has a slightly larger battery pack of 51 kWh (net), with which you can now drive up to 402 kilometers according to the WLTP measuring method. According to the information, it is around 65 kilometers more than before. In practice, however, this will be somewhat lower.

Disappointing range

With the long-term test device, we achieved an average consumption of 19.4 kWh per 100 kilometers. In practice, this meant a range of just 237 kilometers. Significantly less than the specified 337 kilometers. In Eco mode, the pre-facelift version of the Opel Corsa-e achieved a range of 277 kilometers with a full battery. Opel now claims to have improved that range, which may have solved its biggest problem – the limited range.

Few shocking interior changes. The steering wheel in the new Opel Corsa is a bit tighter, the infotainment screen is a bit sharper and the number of driver assistance systems has grown a bit, but that’s about it. The refreshed Opel Corsa can be ordered soon and will be on your doorstep from the second half of 2023.
