Hellboy: The Crooked Man will be the very first Hellboy adaptation that doesn’t take the familiar character and knit a new story around it. No, it will be Mignola’s first direct adaptation of a comic bookwhich some fans have been waiting for for a long time.

The new “Hellboy” movie was shot by Brian Taylor, who mainly has “Crank” and “Crank 2” in his vita, but also shot “Ghost Rider 2” and “Mom & Dad” with Nicolas Cage. He co-wrote the screenplay with fantasy writer Christopher Golden. As Mignola announced on Instagram at the end of filming, Golden managed to “give the studio what they wanted, but with heart and soul [der Comic-Vorlage] remain faithful”.
Mignola further explains on Instagram, that he got the daily footage from the set and that he “loves what he sees”. “The Crooked Man” is his favorite Hellboy story and they “did a great job” bringing the truly terrifying Crooked Man to life.

The new “Hellboy” movie should not only be the first direct comic book adaptation, but it the first film adaptation of the material that can truly be attributed to the horror genre. The R rating for age release in the US should allow things to get brutal. It also needs a new actor to slip into the role after Ron Perlman and David Harbour.
