David Mamet (“House of Games”) is one of the most gifted authors the film industry has ever seen. All the more curious is that even many film buffs can’t do anything with the name. Originally from the theater field and awarded a Pulitzer Prize for his play “Glengarry Glen Ross”, which would later be made into a film, Mamet wrote the templates for “The Verdict”, “The Untouchables” or “Wag The Dog”, among others.
At the same time, he himself took the director’s chair and, with such films as “Homicide – Murder Commission”, “The Invisible Trap” or “Spartan”, he repeatedly demonstrated how polished dialogue sequences can be turned into action scenes. With him, the spoken word often becomes a bullet that cuts through everything. With “Assassination” Mamet now has a new film at the start and it not only sounds quite interesting in terms of content, but also plays with a thoroughly top ensemble that has really washed up!
This is murder
Murder is all about the assassination of John F. Kennedy. It is told from the mob’s point of view. Chicago mob boss Sam Giancana is said to have ordered Kennendy’s assassination here in revenge after Kennedy tried to undermine the mob – which should let him choose in the first place. Much of this conspiracy theory was explored in Oliver Stone’s masterpiece JFK.
David Mamet co-wrote the screenplay with Nicholas Celozzi, Sam Giancana’s second cousin. Starring Al Pacino (The Irishman), Viggo Mortensen (A History Of Violence), John Travolta (Operation: Broken Arrow), Shia LaBeouf (The Heart of Steel), Rebecca Pidgeon (“RED”) and Courtney Love (” Larry Flynt”) showing off their acting skills. It is not yet clear in which roles the respective stars will appear.
