Alfredo Castillero received a decoration from Felipe VI of Spain

dr. Alfredo Castillero, professor at the University of Panama (UP), received the Grand Cross of the Order of Isabel Católica from the Spanish King Felipe VI.
The rector of the College, Eduardo Flores Castro, reported via Instagram about the title received by Castillero, a professor at the UP Institute for Historical Research.

“The order was awarded for his fruitful contribution to the knowledge of our common history, through a rich historiographical work,” Castro wrote.

In 2017, Castillero was recognized as the first researcher emeritus for him National Research System (SIN) for contributing to a better knowledge of the culture of Panama.

During his career, the researcher studied closely documentary sources and cartographic, architectural remainsobjects and other evidence, historical past Panamanot only locally, but also in a global context.

In 2021, Castillero published “1821, Independence of Panama from Spain and its time”, the first copy of the book was personally presented to the President Laurentino Cortizo even the Spanish embassy in Panama repeated the event.

“We welcome the publication of the latest work of an eminent Panamanian historian Dr. Alfredo Castillero Calvo on the independence of Panama from Spain in 1821. Dr. Castillero received his doctorate in history from the Complutense University of Madrid in 1967,” the embassy wrote.

After the recent award, congratulations were not long in coming: “What Panamanian pride”, “Success, congratulations”, “Excellent” and “A real recognition for that work and an example for the citizens of this country and the world.” Thanks to him, our venture has made various contributions to the understanding of our historical center.”

The big cross from Catholic Order of Elizabeth This award was created during the reign of Fernando VII, and its purpose is “to reward those extraordinary behaviors of a civil nature, carried out by Spanish and foreign people, which contribute to the welfare of the nation or contribute, in a relevant way, to favor the relations of friendship and cooperation of the Spanish people with the rest international community”.

His Majesty the King is the Grand Master of the Order of Isabella the Catholic, therefore all the decorations of this order are awarded in his name.
