TV with a brain: This 4K TV from Sony has a very special processor and is simply very cheap

The version of the X90S with 55 inches currently costs 799 euros Cool blue*, which, however, do not deliver to every area in Germany and charge 25 euros for shipping costs. Amazon is offering the 55-inch version of the X90S as part of Sony Brand Week for €869. There are no shipping costs for Prime customers, so in the end you pay “only” 45 euros more. The 50-inch (127 centimeters) model is also discounted at Amazon and costs 799 euros*.

No joke: the Sony X90S thinks like a human being

The special thing about the Sony X90S is the processor, which Sony cryptically calls the “Cognitive Processor XR”. Behind this is an interesting technology that allows the Bravia TV to automatically recognize people or certain objects in the image and adjust the contrast and exposure to them.

As a result, the Sony TV’s processor basically acts like a human brain, focusing on the parts of the picture that you are more likely to draw your attention to. The effect occurs according to testing subtly, but noticeably improves image quality. The processor also ensures very good upscaling of Full HD content to 4K resolution.

Although the Sony X90S does not have an OLED display, it offers a very good overall picture with its Direct Full Array LED panel. With the exception of HDR10+, the 4K TV supports the most important HDR formats such as Dolby Vision. Only in the black levels, Sony cannot keep up with OLED technology, because the individual pixels cannot be completely switched off and always get a little light from the backlight.

80 dimming zones and 120 Hz ensure a good image

The 80 full array dimming zones can help with this, but the pixels are not completely turned off, only dimmed. Ultimately, however, you will probably hardly notice any differences compared to an OLED TV in this price range.

With its 120 Hz display and two HDMI 2.1 ports the Sony X90S offers very good conditions for next-gen gaming with the Playstation 5 or the Xbox Series X. Variable refresh rates (VRR) and the automatic game mode (ALLM) further improve the gaming experience.

LG OLED CS9 as the best alternative to Sony Bravia X90S

If you want to enjoy perfect black while streaming, an OLED TV is a good alternative to the Sony X90S. A strong option is the LG OLED CS9, which is currently being presented at MediaMarkt and Saturn* costs only 999 euros with 55 inches.

The CS9 offers four HDMI 2.1 inputs and excellent black levels thanks to the OLED display with 120 Hz. In addition, there is a fast processor that does not come close to the special features of the Sony CPU, but still does its job very well. The high-quality technical equipment makes the LG OLED CS9 a real price-performance tip.
