There is still a long way to go before the sci-fi epic “Dune: Part Two” hits theaters: the sequel to Denis Villeneuve’s multi-award-winning novel adaptation “Dune” is expected to be released on November 2 this year. But now if you want to know how the story could continue, you will find it in the home theater.
Than on May 12, 2023 the miniseries “Children of Dune“new in the home theater. The more than four-hour sci-fi series starring “X-Men” star James McAvoy predates Villeneuve’s film series, but its content begins later in the “Dune” saga.
Incidentally, the mini-series “Children Of Dune” has already been released on DVD and Blu-ray, but the editions have been available only on the second-hand market for some time. The new edition offers all “Dune” fans an alternative to the thrift store if they want to get their hands on the Emmy-winning series.
“Children Of Dune”: Paul Atreides is threatened by a conspiracy
The miniseries begins at a time when Paul Atreides, aka Muad’Dib (Alec Newman), has long since established himself as ruler of the desert planet Arrakis. He is therefore responsible for the supply of the valuable “Spice” that is extracted there. The substance has mind-altering and life-prolonging effects and, in the first place, enables long journeys in space. However, this power brings Muad’Dib’s fierce enemies, who are now fighting, conspire against him, and he must now rely on his twin children to defend his position – but his Ghanima (Jessica Brooks) and Leto II (James McAvoy) ready for the task?
The clocks are ticking differently on Arrakis: it is actually a commonplace that serial adaptations of novels allow plenty of room to perform the original in detail, while films greatly reduce the content. But during Blade Runner 2049, director Villeneuve Frank Herbert is the first Roman “Dune”.* now spread to the screen in two theatrical movies, the “Children Of Dune” mini-series combines two novels: “The Lord of the Desert Planet”* And “The Children of the Desert Planet”*representing parts two or three of the new cycle.
The four-hour miniseries was directed by Greg Yaitanes, who has worked on series as diverse as Lost, Grey’s Anatomy and House Of The Dragon. The screenplay, in turn, was written by John Harrison, who many critics confirmed that by shortening the originals, he made them more soap opera-like, but also more understandable. It’s still worth a look, including 80 percent positive reviews and 7.3 out of 10 stars to suggest.
While the series delivers star power alongside screen legend Susan Sarandon and James McAvoy, who has become much more popular since its first broadcast, there is also such a thing as an acoustic star: the score for “Childen Of Dune” comes from Brian Tyler, the composer of several “Fast & Furious Parts, Avengers: Age Of Ultron and The Super Mario Bros. Movie.
And with the music for the sci-fi miniseries, he’s delivered one of his most repurposed works: the music has been picked up in numerous trailers, including trailers for Kung Fu Panda and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
