Anyone who spends a lot of time on TikTok or Twitter and also follows English-language accounts and their users will probably not be able to ignore The Good Doctor in recent days. Because there are countless posts and videos being shared, some of which have thousands of likes, comments and other interactions. Almost everyone asks in surprise: What the hell is The Good Doctor? However, the series is mainly mocked and there are now also shit storms for a reason.
It almost seems like the network is just now discovering “The Good Doctor”, even though the series has been running successfully since 2017. For example, in Germany, with the release of new seasons on Netflix, it always became one of the most watched titles there. There are over 100 episodes and a seventh season has recently been ordered. It centers on Freddie Highmore as the autistic medical genius Dr. Shaun Murphy. Based on a Korean series, the American version of David Shore, who has been a star since “Dr. House” is one of the most successful American series creators.
It started with a meme…
The current discussion about “The Good Doctor” probably started with a clip in which the main character confronted Dr. Han (Daniel Dae Kim), who is kind of the villain of the series, screams.
Since then, both Highmore’s screams and Kim’s reaction, who is also one of the producers and behind the idea of adapting the series for the US, have been used for countless memes. There’s even a template to copy Highmore’s tantrum:
It’s not the only scene where the main character’s insistence that she’s a surgeon has meme potential.
… it became mockery
However, the fact that so many people are interested in the series has led to many bad, questionable or funny scenes being found. That’s why the series is now getting excited and ridiculed.
It starts with things like the staging,…
…but also pertains to how the main character moves (and once you see it, you’ll probably never be able to see him again without thinking of C-3PO).
Absurd scenes without the titular Good Doctor are also unearthed:
Almost every scene from the series seems to have meme potential, especially when Dr. Murphy about his nemesis Dr. Han meets.
Most of the clips are meant to be funny, people are amused by the weaknesses of the series. But the problems run deeper, as evidenced by some serious posts on Twitter and TikTok.
… and now “The Good Doctor” also receives Shitstorms
This is how the attention that comes with the funny videos has also led to it that there are several shitstorms against the series – for example because of the depiction of transgender people. Because the eponymous “Good Doctor” is quite transphobic, as the following video proves:
However, it is mainly about how poorly the series portrays autism. The series is accused of not being familiar with the actual main subject of the series (also because no one involved is autistic themselves) and even supports very problematic groups:
The deeper people dig, the more dubious examples they unearth.
Currently, if you enter the name of the series when searching on Twitter or TikTok, you’ll find plenty of other results for “The good doctorThere are really countless videos, photos, comments. There are hardly any voices defending the series. There are voices that get annoyed that The Good Doctor fills their timeline. It’s mostly people who keep going on and on, mocking or pointing out the big problems of the series. Do your own quest, but be prepared to sink down a rabbit hole…
