Feeling! “SWAT” cancellation is being rolled back – at least in part

Just a few days ago we reported that the American broadcaster CBS decided to stop the action series “SWAT” after the sixth season was almost over, which, given the still decent ratings (in season 6, the values even went up slightly) . increased) shocked fans and stars alike. Leading actor Shemar Moore, for example, was visibly disappointed in an Instagram video, describing the decision as a mistake, which would also be at the expense of diversity on television, as he is currently the only African-American leading actor in a network series. .

After the harsh reactions comes the turnaround: SWAT isn’t getting disconnected after all, at least not after season six. Instead, the police series will now have a seventh and final season, which will have only 13 (and not the usual 20) episodes. CBS has now confirmed the trade journal and has since been praised by Shemar Moore via Instagram (who is also now part of the producing team in Season 7):

That such a decision, especially because it goes so quickly, is reversed is quite a rarity in the series landscape. It is more common for another provider to revive a discontinued format, which was considered unlikely with “SWAT” given its somewhat complicated division of rights.

CBS and Sony have reached an agreement

Noisy CBS and production studio Sony Pictures TV reportedly resumed negotiations over the future of the series after the loud echo about the cancellation, after apparently unable to agree on further financing due to licensing fees and rising production costs. But the latter probably happened over the weekend.

Although the ending of “SWAT” was basically just pushed back a bit so that the series is coming to an end soon, yeah the story, the characters and the fans are still getting round and not as abruptly as after season 6with only two episodes remaining in the US.

In Germany, the sixth season is currently running (with some delay) on Sky and the associated streaming service WOW. The series is even more popular in Germany on Netflix and Amazon Prime Video, where only the first four seasons have been shown so far. Season 5 is expected here in the second half of 2023.
