Ed Sheeran acquitted of plagiarism

A New York jury acquitted British singer Ed Sheeran of partial plagiarism in the song “Let’s get it on” after a two-week trial in Manhattan federal court, local media reported.

As the jury delivered its verdict, Ed Sheeran stood up and hugged his lawyers, who managed to convince the seven jurors that the chords of 2014’s “Thinking out loud” and its similarity to Marvin Gaye’s theme song were mere coincidence.

Then he went to members of the jury and thanked them loudly.

A controversial song

Sheeran was accused by the heirs Ed Townsendco-writer of Marvin Gaye’s song, in a lawsuit dating back to 2017 in which Sheeran went so far as to say he would withdraw from music, music if it is the appellants they won the case.

Sheeran, who is promoting his album “=”, will perform 21 concerts in the United States and Canada between May 6 (Arlington, Texas) and September 23 (Inglewood, California), with two forays into Canada on June 17 (Toronto). and September 2 (Vancouver).
