They are conducting an ‘Editathon of Panamanian Scientists’

What is the Editathon for Panamanian scientists? It is a transformative action initiative that corresponds to the second phase of the research project “Pioneers of Science”, developed by the International Center for Political and Social Studies (CIEPS).

Until May 6, 2023, selected scientists, journalists, academics and other experts will meet in the City of Knowledge on the day of intervention in the most important online and collaborative encyclopedia in the world: Wikipedia.

The activity will replicate in Panama an international initiative that aims to reduce the double gender gap that exists on Wikipedia, where only 1 out of 10 people who edit are women and 2 out of 10 biographies are women.

This Editathon will gather more of 30 scientists and experts in editing biographies of existing Panamanian scholars and creating those not currently listed.

The initiative, born in Mexico and expanded internationally since 2015, also seeks to contribute to the empowerment of women through technology.

The selected participants attended three previous workshops.

The main edition day will be held in the City of Knowledge Friday, May 5 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.and in which the aforementioned international guests will participate, as well as some of our pioneers in science.

A meeting will be held to end the week of activities networking, on Saturday, May 6 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in the City of Knowledge.

In this final event, editors and organizers They will be able to evaluate the results of the Editathon and discuss the future possibilities of creating a branch of Wikimedia Panama.

This event, funded by the National Secretariat for Science, Technology and Innovation, will be open to other guests with prior registration.
