Chuck Lorre was instrumental in creating two cult sitcoms. With “Two and a Half Men” and “The Big Bang Theory” he created two of the most successful sitcoms of all time. Both series have more in common than their huge success and love of silly buddy humor: There is a hidden detail in The Big Bang Theory that also appeared in Two and a Half Men. And no, we’re not talking about Charlie Sheen and his brief gig at the Cheesecake Factory.
It’s a much more subtle detail. Do you remember “Oshikuru Demon Samurai”? This is a fictional series that is central to the season two episode “The Salmon Under My Blouse” of Two and a Half Men. In the episode, Charlie is assigned to compose the series’ theme song. Jake is a big fan of the series and helps him – also because he is not enthusiastic about his uncle’s first designs. When Jake and his uncle watch the finished series at the end of the episode, the disappointment is great: Charlie resorts to one of his earlier versions at the last minute.
Are both series set in one universe?
memory refreshed? Good! But now for the most important thing: did you notice that the song also appears in “The Big Bang Theory”? In the third episode of the third season, called “Sex or Chocolates”, Leonard and his friends sit in front of the television. You are watching an episode of Oshikuru Demon Samurai. This adorable Easter egg encourages more fan theories. If Oshikurur Demon Samurai is exclusive to the two iconic sitcoms, you might wonder if they’re both set in the same universe.
That has never been officially confirmed. Still, the thought is appealing, as it would shed a different light on Charlie Sheen’s brief cameo appearance. That would also mean that “Young Sheldon” takes place in the same universe. However, fans should not hope for a crossover. After all, both sitcoms have been canceled for several years now. This Easter Egg still provides material for fanfiction!
