Las Vegas is currently hosting CinemaCon, a trade show for the cinema industry, where major Hollywood studios showcase their upcoming films and bring cast and crew to the stage to inspire cinema operators with their titles. After Studio Sony showed up on Tuesday evening and had, among other things, an insanely brutal trailer of the superhero film “Kraven The Hunter” in their luggage, it was now Warner’s turn. And apparently made a big impression with a presentation of “The Flash” and a first trailer for “Dune 2″…
As the American trade journals unanimously report, the attending director Denis Villeneuve promised that in “Dune: Part 2” everything should be different and much more spectacular and bombastic – a remarkable achievementAfter all, the first “Dune” is for us (and many others) a masterpiece and “purely overwhelming cinema full of transcendental beauty”, as FILMSTARTS editor-in-chief Christoph Petersen put it in his 5-star review.
“Dune 2” all in IMAX!
“Part 1 is a more thoughtful film. Part 2 is an action-packed epic war movie. The film is told much more densely,” says Villeneuve. “We shot at all the new locations. I didn’t want reruns. They are all new sets, everything is new.”
What’s more, Villeneuve had another real hit up his sleeve: While only about 40 percent of the film in “Dune” was shot on large-format, high-resolution IMAX cameras, in “Dune 2” it was 100 percent. In other words: In an IMAX theater, “Dune: Part Two” then fills the entire giant screen for the entire season, similar to a “Avatar: The way of the water“. This promises even more bombastic pictures and even more sheer amazement than part 1.
That shows the first trailer
To support these claims, a first trailer of “Dune 2” was also shown at CinemaCon, which unfortunately was not published on the internet afterwards. However, the preview is universally described as “epic,” “breathtaking,” and “overwhelming,” and features Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) rising to leader of the Fremen and himself, among others. a knife duel with new Harkonnen villain Feyd-Rautha (“Elvis” star Austin Butler) delivers.
However, the highlight of the trailer is reportedly the moment when Paul climbs onto one of Arrakis’ huge sandworms for the first time and then sends it across the desert planet…
It will probably be another two or three months before the trailer is published on the internet. “Dune 2″ will be released in German cinemas on November 2, 2023.
