After just 30 episodes, Star Trek: Picard is already over. Before saying goodbye, the late sequel series to “Spaceship Enterprise: The Next Century” aka “Star Trek: The Next Generation” has brought a lot to the fore again. With the return of all the original protagonists from back then, Season 3 was finally a full-fledged revival, with the iconic crew of the Enterprises D and E saying a dignified and spectacular farewell 20 years after the flopped cinematic adventure “Star Trek”. : Nemesis”. became.
Even though there are always rumors of a new movie about Jean-Luc Picard’s (Patrick Stewart) old team, there are currently no plans to send them all together on another space mission. Still, the final “Picard” episode puts everything in its place for more stories that tie into the ending – but with a different crew and a new Enterprise at its core…
Does “Star Trek: Legacy?”
Before the old warriors around Picard bid the public farewell in a nostalgic game of poker (as they did in the last “Next Generation” episode), a possible new “Star Trek” spin-off is quite clearly being prepared. Under the command of the newly promoted Seven of Nine (Jerry Ryan) and with Raffi (Michelle Hurd) as First Officer and Beverly Crusher and Picard’s son Jack (Ed Speleers) as a consultant on the bridge, the USS Titan, renamed the Enterprise-G, embarks on new adventures in the depths of space.
And it is precisely this crew (supported by the rest of Titan’s cast and also Geordi’s daughters Sidney and Alandra) that could now lead the next offshoot and take over the baton of the “Next Generation”. In fact, “Picard” showrunner Terry Matalas even hinted at such an offshoot on Twitter a few weeks ago, which he believes should be titled “Star Trek: Legacy”:
With guest stars from “Next Generation”?
Matalas describes this in his tweet possible spin-off as a series set in the (still young) 25th century of the “Star Trek” universe, targeting both the last and next generation. This does not only mean the younger crew of the Enterprise-G, but also the veterans around Picard. In that case, it would be quite possible that Patrick Stewart and Co. drop by again for a few guest appearances in such a show, albeit not as concentrated and in such a capacity as last time in “Picard”.
Star Trek: Legacy (or whatever you want to call the potential spin-off) hasn’t been officially announced yet. After the last “Picard” season was so well received and such a quasi-sequel is so clearly teased at the end (including the comeback of Q, presumed dead, who now wants to test Jack after Jean-Luc), is it It is not unlikely that the project will actually come about.
Although “Star Trek” boss Alex Kurtzman has repeatedly emphasized that he does not want to run too many series from the franchise at once (currently there are also “Star Trek: Discovery”, “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” and the animated series “Star Trek : Lower Decks” and “Star Trek: Prodigy”), but with the end of “Picard” and “Discovery” entering its fifth and final season in 2024, there would definitely be room for “Legacy” ((although another new series, Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, and a streaming movie, Star Trek: Section 31, have already been announced.) The long-lived sci-fi franchise has a lot in store for the coming years, at least in the series department.
