“The Whale”: Win movie tickets for the special screening of Brendan Fraser’s Oscar success in Berlin

“The Whale” opens in German cinemas on April 27, 2023 and you have the unique opportunity to watch the gripping drama, for which Brendan Fraser won the Oscar for Best Actor, a few days before its release with FILMSTARTS. We’re giving away 100 x 2 tickets for the special screening on April 23 in Berlin.

“The Whale”: heartbreaking and brilliantly played

We can already promise you that with “The Whale” you will see a film that you will not soon forget. In the official FILMSTARTS review, the drama from “Requiem For A Dream” creator Darren Aronofsky received a rock-solid 4.5 out of a possible 5 stars! The conclusion of our editor-in-chief Christoph Petersen is therefore euphoric:

Brendan Fraser, Sadie Sink and Hong Chau deliver three of the best performances of the year in this astonishingly faithful theatrical adaptation – and at the same time teach us a lesson in empathy and humanity, which, under the relatively understated direction of Darren Aronofsky, proved absolutely thrilling right up to the gut-wrenching final shot.

That’s what “The Whale” is about

At the center of the story is Charlie (Brendan Fraser), who years ago left his former family to be with a man. After he dies, Charlie falls into a mental low. Due to the heavy grief, Charlie, who now weighs more than 270 kilograms, developed an eating disorder and has difficulty with daily life. At least he can still do his job as an English professor, which he can do from home.

As his past haunts Charlie, he decides to reconnect with his 17-year-old daughter Ellie (Sadie Sink). However, as his health becomes more and more critical, he does everything he can to save himself and his daughter’s future. Together with his ex-wife Mary (Samantha Morton) and the door-to-door evangelist Thomas (Ty Simpkins), a time begins that demands everything from him.
