Yes, you read that right! The history of the two 2017 and 2019 “ES” movies comes in series. It’s been speculated for a long time that director mastermind Andy Muschietti wants to make a series for his two Stephen King adaptations, and it’s been clear for a few weeks now that the project is really in the works and production is in full swing. Even King himself congratulated Mussetti on the prequel series.
The creators of the series have not yet revealed any details. But that will now change. As of today, we know who will play the lead role in “Welcome To Derry”. Belong to the official cast Taylor pageyou may know from the movies Zola and Sharp Stick, Jovan Adepo (‘Babylon’, ‘Watchmen’), ‘Perry Mason’ actor Chris Chalt And James Remar (“Yellowstone”, “Oppenheimer”).
It has not yet been revealed what roles the newly cast stars will slip into. There is only more concrete information about a known “ES” character…
Bill Skarsgård will not play Pennywise
So now we know which actors will star in Welcome To Derry. But whatever we know – and what may disappoint one or the other fan: Pennywise, the murderous clown and terror of all children, is not, as in the “IT” movies, by Bill Skarsgard played. Skarsgård revealed this in an interview with Jake’s recordings personal.
However, it’s still completely unclear who will play the clown instead and what that might look like. After all, we don’t know that much about the story that will be told in Derry.
This is what “Welcome To Derry” could look like
What we do know for sure is that ‘Welcome To Derry’ is set in King’s fictional town of Derry, which figures prominently in his novels and short stories. Of course, the 1968 book “ES” is also set in Derry. What exactly the series will look like and what story it will tell is not yet known. So far, Muschiette has only revealed that the series is set in the 1960s and that his adaptations will tie in with that.
Mussetti will direct some episodes of Derry (including the pilot!) and co-produce with his sister, Barbara Muschietti. The showrunners have already been found in Jason Fuchs (“Wonder Woman”) and Brad Caleb Kane (“Aladdin”).
It is not yet known when “Welcome To Derry” will air on HBO Max. We expect the series to start at the end of 2023 at the earliest.
