It’s a good story, which of course feeds the marketing for the Netflix sequel “Murder Mystery 2”, which you can stream since this Friday, and which is therefore told again and again: it is the story of how Adam Sandler became the “Murder Mystery” sequel was hit on the nose so hard he cried.
On Jimmy Fallon’s talk show The Tonight Show, for example, Jennifer Aniston unpacked the story and told her obviously amused host: “Adam did a lot of his own stunts — and he got pretty beat up. I’m telling you, he’s really beaten. Mark Strong punched him in the face.” She then added that the blow was “pretty hard” and even made Sandler cry.
In a joint interview with the instead, it was Sandler who got the story out. When Aniston praised Mark Strong in a video message to the actor, he added: “But we’re not going to talk about how Mark hit me in the face this time. Yes, Mark accidentally hit me in the face. Do you remember Mark?” But he also adds: “I immediately forgave him. I was knocked out for maybe half a second.” Again, Aniston adds that it “made Sandler cry a little bit.”
Mark Strong: A light touch turned into a story!
At the American premiere of the film in Los Angeles on March 28, 2023, it was Mark Strong who told the story of the hard blow in an interview with the pulled the plug: “I had to pretend I hit him like 150 times. I touched his nose lightly at one point, and it seems that’s now the story I hit him as hard as he could and he burst into tears.”
However, he confirms not only that he punched Sandler a bit, but also that there were tears in his eyes – a perfectly normal physical reaction, however, according to Strong: “If someone hits you right on the end of the nose with a punch , then your eyes get a little wet. But that’s about it, but whatever: don’t let the truth get in the way of a good story.”
The bottom line is that while Mark Strong may have gotten Adam Sandler a little bit, the comedian and Jennifer Aniston overdid the story a bit for good marketing. However, in the end, the story shows that there are some stunts in shooting “Murder Mystery 2”, which are also a strong point of the Netflix crime comedy, as we note in our FILMSTARTS review.
