Season 2 of “Game Of Thrones: House Of The Dragon” will enter production soon and release is expected in Summer 2024. After that, it’s back to Westeros for several weeks – although this time the journey will be shorter than in season 1. How reported, season 2 consists of only eight instead of ten episodes.
However, the discount will not take place for cost reasons, emphasizes a spokesperson for HBO . Rather, it should be a substantive decision to make the second season “round”. Originally, ten episodes were planned for season 2, but for a completed story arc, it made more sense to move a portion to the planned third season. Among other things, an important battle that was planned for season 2 will now only take place in season 3 of “House Of The Dragon”.
And why is this good news now?
Fewer episodes in Season 2 and a major Targaryen battle to keep us waiting even longer – but why should that be good news for fans? With a major plot element of the Game Of Thrones spin-off already moved to Season 3, that means ordering a third season is very, very likely. That also confirms : It is said that season 3 is about to be green-lit for production, and the plans for the episodes are said to be ready already.
And not only that season 3 is almost certain, which is of course not surprising given the number of viewers of “House Of The Dragon”. It’s also good news that HBO’s development isn’t just season-by-season, but already looking at the big picture – while Season 2 is being filmed, there’s already a plan for what’s going to happen in Season 3. That can really only be good for the development of the story, even though we only get eight episodes in season 2.
Master plan: season 3 almost certain, season 4 possible
That doesn’t have to be the end though: Bei want to hear you that HBO is currently leaning towards four seasons of “House Of The Dragon”. However, that is not yet certain. Showrunner Ryan Condal and producer George RR Martin would continue to pitch three to four seasons they need to tell the full story.
Season 2 of House Of The Dragon continues the increasingly brutal battle for the Iron Throne. Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy) and her husband Daemon (Matt Smith) are on one side, Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke) with their sons on the other. What has already been confirmed: we will no longer see the younger actresses of Rhaenyra and Alicent. There will be no flashbacks to Milly Alcock and Emily Carey in Season 2.
