After Paul Feig sowed disproportionate displeasure with his 2016 “Ghostbusters”, “Ghostbusters: Legacy” 2021 was able to calm things down again. Following in the footsteps of his father Ivan Reitman (“Ghostbusters” & “Ghostbusters 2”), director Jason Reitman set his belated sequel aside for a mesmerizing nostalgic fantasy adventure, recently starring charming stars like Paul Rudd, Carrie Coon, Mckenna Grace and Finn Wolfhard scored well.
It has been known for a while that Ghostbusters: Legacy is getting a sequel. What it will be about is not yet known, but the action will be moved back to the big city – and so exactly to the New York fire station where “Ghostbusters” and “Ghostbusters 2” also played. What we do know now is that the cast of the sequel has been expanded with two high-profile names.
“Ghostbusters” featuring “King Of Queens” and Marvel stars
It has already been confirmed that Paul Rudd, Carrie Coon, Mckenna Grace and Finn Wolfhard will reprise their roles from Ghostbusters: Legacy for the sequel. New to the cast are the ‘Kings Of Queens’ stars Patton Oswalt And Kumail Nanjianiwho starred in the Marvel blockbuster “Eternals” or the “Star Wars” series “Obi-Wan Kenobi”. Also cast are comedian James Acaster (“Repertoire”) and Emily Alyn Lind (“Gossip Girl”).
Jason Reitman will no longer direct the film and Gil Kenan (“Poltergeist”) will take over. In addition to his role as producer, Reitman co-wrote the screenplay with Kenan and Jason Blumenfeld. It is currently planned that the new “Ghostbusters” will hit cinemas in Germany on December 21, 2023.
