Until 2017, Jordan Peele was best known for his comedic performances, most notably alongside Keegan-Michael Key as one half of the Key & Peele duo. All the more surprising was his directorial debut “Get Out” in 2017, an abysmal horror satire that thrilled audiences and press alike, grossed approximately $255 million worldwide (on a budget of $4.5 million), and even earned Peele an Oscar for screenplay.
It is now known that Peele stands for original genre fare unrelated to any franchise, in which social issues are always addressed. After his second film “Wir” he only presented another unusual horror highlight (this time with a clear sci-fi impact) in 2022 with “Nope”, even placing it second on our list of the best films of the past year ( beaten only by the Oscar winner “Everything Everywhere All At Once”).
We always can’t wait to see what Jordan Peele comes up with next. Because no matter how you find the result at the end, his films are always a special experience. And it probably won’t be any different with his new directorial work, which according to consistent reports from US trade journals is now certain when we’ll see it: Jordan Peele’s untitled fourth film hits theaters December 25, 2024, just in time for Christmas – and that is quite a daring date…
Jordan Peele vs “Avatar 3”
Than James Cameron’s mega blockbuster”avatar 3‘ in the cinemas and then, like its two super-successful predecessors (after all, the highest-grossing and the third-highest-grossing film of all time) should dominate the cinema charts for several weeks. Universal’s ability to take on Jordan Peele’s new project against all-out Disney competition is a testament to the studio’s faith in the filmmaker. Of course, the launch date could also be adjusted again if everything goes according to plan, but Universal should actually stick to it (after all, it wasn’t just yesterday that “Avatar 3” launched at the end of 2024. ).
One can only hope that this confidence will eventually pay off and that “Avatar 3” will not overwhelm all other cinema films in its vicinity upon release. It is still unclear whether we will also get a direct duel between Jordan Peele and James Cameron. While “Wir” was also released in Germany, parallel to the start in the US, “Get Out” and “Nope” only came to Germany a few weeks after their overseas premiere. The German date for “Avatar 3” is December 18, 2024.
Mysterious as ever
What exactly the new Peele film is about is again a big secret. So it is not known what the “Nope” successor is called, what it is about and who will play. It’s not even clear if Peele is going back to scary realms or if he’s trying something completely different this time around (this is different for another film from Peele’s horror forge Monkey Paw, which has been announced for 2024 and is a proper horror-supposed thriller).
