Actors Matthew McConaughey (“The Gentlemen”) and Woody Harrelson (“Triangle Of Sadness”) have already proven how well they work together on screen with the movie “EDtv” and the first season of “True Detective”. For Apple TV+, they now appear together again in front of the camera in a rather unusual format, which is supposed to be about their long-standing friendship.
In the first season of the thriller series True Detective, McConaughey and Harrelson played two cops more or less broken by a gruesome series of murders that will never let them go. Critics and viewers loved the series, but there was little to laugh about. That must be completely different with the new project…
McConaughey and Harrelson play themselves!
How reported, McConaughey and Harrelson are in a still untitled series fictionalized versions of themselves playing for Apple TV+. They and their families will (for unknown reasons) live together on McConaughey’s ranch in Texas, testing the two men’s friendship. Apple describes the series, which will be ten episodes long and is written by Read David West (“Schitt’s Creek”) comes as a “sincere love story”. That sounds promising and quite fun.
But what might that look like with McConaughey and Harrelson playing themselves? Of course, we immediately think of Christian Ulmen and Fahri Yardım, who skillfully mix reality and fiction in the German comedy production “Jerks”. We now know that this format works great and is very entertaining. “Jerks” has made a total of five seasons and has won a number of awards.
It is not yet clear when the new series starring Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson will start on Apple TV+. We will keep you informed. However, you can currently stream “Jerks” on Joyn.
