In 2022 we unfortunately had to do without new episodes of “Ted Lasso”, but now the long wait is finally over. Starting today, March 15, 2023, the first episode of Season 3 is available on Apple TV+. Another one follows each week.
The new season begins with AFC Richmond, coached by Ted Lasso (Jason Sudeikis), finally playing in the Premier League again. But can they survive there? All experts are convinced that having turned last, they will go right back down. Club owner Rebecca (Hannah Waddingham) wants to avoid that at all costs – and especially the disgrace towards her hated ex-husband Rupert (Anthony Head), who has since bought West Ham United and is forming a top team. He relies on Ted’s former protege “prodigy” Nate (Nick Mohammed) as head coach.
“Ted Lasso” – so much more than football
While AFC Richmond’s sporting success (or failure?) plays a big part, fans of Ted Lasso know all too well that this series is about more than just football. How does Ted deal with his psychological problems and the further separation from his son? How is Keeley (Juno Temple) doing with her own business and now responsibility for people? How will Nate develop as a person? How does Sam (Toheeb Jimoh) manage his multiple roles as a celebrated soccer player, restaurant owner and always good-humored person looking for love?
We’ve only been able to see a few episodes of Ted Lasso’s Season 3 so far, but these are top notch. The series really picks up as well as it left off. There are many exciting and beautiful stories and new ideas in it. With a player clearly influenced by a true superstar who is about to turn the Premier League upside down, there’s also a really fun new character. And the first minutes of the third episode reveal a very important and promising story for the third season, which the author of these lines longed for.
But as noted in the headline, there’s also some bad news for the series’ third season…
Will Season 3 of “Ted Lasso” be the last?
Because the series creators around Jason Sudeikis, Brendan Hunt, Joe Kelly and “Scrubs” inventor Bill Lawrence developed a three-season plan from the start. Then her story is told, completing the planned development arcs of all characters such as Ted, Nate, Rebecca, or Keeley. The third season is therefore actually the logical end of the series and there have already been similar reports about it.
But there is still hope. Some key stakeholders have already revealed that it could go further – including Brendan Hunt in an interview with us, who is not only one of the series’ writers and creators, but also plays Coach Beard. When we asked what it would take for “Ted Lasso” to get a fourth season, he pointed to “money” with a clear wave of his hand.
But then he said that the third season is really the finale and he doesn’t know yet what will happen next. In the end, however, he gave hope: “It is certainly possible that there are more to come. We’ll release the third season first. Then we take a little break. After the dust settles, we’ll take a look at everything and see what happens.
Whether it will continue after the third season will not be decided so quickly. But they could count on the further participation of many stars. Brett Goldstein, who plays Roy Kent and is also involved in the screenplays, told us he would play the role “forever” and is very open to a sequel.
Must-see for “Ted Lasso” fans: “Shrinking” – also on AppleTV+
First of all, the third season of “Ted Lasso” is now on Apple TV+. And if you think that one episode a week is quite little, we have two recommendations for you. On the one hand, there is currently also the series highlight “Shrinking” on Apple TV + with Jason Segel and Harrison Ford, among others. It’s as wonderful a feel-good series as “Ted Lasso” with lots of small and big drama and humor and even more heart – no wonder. In addition to “How I Met Your Mother” star Segel, the aforementioned Brett Goldstein and “Scrubs” creator Bill Lawrence also include two of the creative people involved in “Ted Lasso” responsible for this series.
And the other tip is, just watch the first two seasons of “Ted Lasso” again. Because there are an incredible amount of little Easter eggs and clues to discover if you already know the series. Nate actor Nick Mohammed also pointed this out to us in an interview. Of course, we also asked him the question of all questions:
