Queen guitarist Brian May was welcomed by King Charles III at Buckingham Palace in London on Tuesday. (74) received the award.
Pictures showed the 75-year-old rock star kneeling before the monarch as he touched his shoulders with a knife. May may now call herself “Sir Brian”.
The guitar virtuoso told the British press agency PA that the band could still go on tour this year. “We’re thinking about touring, that’s all I can say. I hope to stay in good health, which is always a good thing,” May said.
May only appeared at Buckingham Palace last June for the 70th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s reign. The then 96-year-old monarch, who died a few months later, also recorded a video. In this, she apparently drank tea with the movie character Paddington Bear and simultaneously drummed the beat of the Queen hit “We Will Rock You” with a spoon on a teacup. At a performance 20 years ago, May also played guitar on the roof of Buckingham Palace. (sda/dpa)
