There are currently some good deals from the colorful world of Ambilight. A good smart TV there is also one affordable conversion kit. But Amazon is now turning its attention to the really big fish and has one of the best Ambilight TVs on offer with the Philips OLED 807.
The variant with 55 inches (139 centimeters) costs 1278.90 euros of the Philips OLED 807. This is currently by far the best offer for a TV in this class (including Ambilight):
Philips OLED TV 807: With 120 Hertz and improved Ambilight
In Philips’ 55-inch model range, the 807 takes the place behind the flagships OLED 936 and OLED 907. However, the Ambilight TV does not have to hide from the competition within the brand. for example, gives the 807 a 9.2 out of 10, putting it on par with the premium 936. At the 807 ranks second among Philips televisions with a rating of 1.5, behind the 937, which is not available in 55 inches, however.
And the Philips TV also performs very well compared to its competitors from LG, Sony and Samsung. Unlike the mentioned competitors, Smart TVs from Philips support HDR formats HDR10+ and Dolby Vision. With other brands you have to choose between a format. Philips is clearly leading the way here.
When it comes to image quality, there is hardly any television that can match the OLED 807. In addition to the typical OLED rich black, the Ambilight TV scores with enormous brightness, which is ahead of many other OLED TVs. This is where the OLED EX panel – a further development of OLED technology – pays off. The images are razor-sharp and thanks to 120 hertz, sports broadcasts also run super smoothly.
The highlight of a Philips television is of course the Ambilight function. And here too, the Dutch have improved somewhat: the LEDs on the back of the smart TV are now individually controlled. In previous generations, the small LEDs were grouped together. Now the OLED 807 produces even finer gradations and richness of detail in Ambilight.
Weaknesses: Menu and remote control
Furthermore, the Philips OLED 807 has all the important features you can expect from a Smart TV. Two HDMI 2.1 inputs with a variable frame rate enable fast gaming and the Android Smart TV menu is uncluttered as usual.
As always with Philips, there are downsides to the TV’s nested settings menu. And the remote control also leaves a lot to be desired, because the buttons are very small, are a bit close together and the gray letters barely stand out from the silver of the remote control in darker light.
Philips OLED 707: the cheaper alternative to the 807
If you mainly use your TV in the evening and you don’t necessarily need high peak brightness, the Philips OLED 707 may be a better choice for you. It offers almost the same technical requirements, but does not have an OLED-EX, but “only” an OLED display and therefore slightly less brightness.
In addition, the processor of the OLED 707 is slightly weaker than that of the 807. The Ambilight is also only installed on three sides. The 807 features Ambilight on all four edges. That’s what the OLED 707 is for again almost 300 euros cheaper and currently costs 999 euros on Amazon.
