Today, again, there is a lot of talk about the women’s movement and the relationship between the sexes. How do we deal with misogynistic statements or disclosures about systematic sexual harassment of women in Hollywood?
Of course there have been moments in Swiss history when women came together – for example, before women were given the right to vote in 1971 or during the women’s strike in the summer of 1991. These movements were the “tip of the iceberg”. Among them there would always be a large number of individual movements.
Do we now live in a gender-equal society? What needs to be done to achieve this goal and do we want it? It is useful to understand the historical development of the women’s movement in order not to lose track of this diversity of ideas and, above all, to better evaluate the arguments for and against: How did the road to liberation go and how did it happen? What discussions were held and when? Only then can it become clear where we are now.
