Even before Michael Mann’s “Ferrari”: In the German trailer for the “Lamborghini” biopic, a Marvel villain plays the legendary sports car pioneer

‘Ferrari’, Michael Mann’s highly anticipated biopic about automaker Enzo Ferrari, starring ‘Star Wars’ villain Adam Driver, has been completed and is currently in post-production. A release is scheduled for 2023. Until then, movie buffs with a soft spot for Italian luxury sports cars can while away the time with “Lamborghini: The Man Behind The Legend,” which tells the turbulent life story of Ferrari competitor Ferruccio Lamborghini.

Lamborghini: The Man Behind The Legend will be released on Blu-ray and DVD in Germany on April 6, 2023. Both formats with the requested FSK-12 approval can already be pre-ordered from online providers such as Amazon. Now there’s also a German trailer for the biopic, which we’ve included for you above.

“Lamborghini: the man behind the legend”: this is the story

After serving as a mechanic in World War II, farmer’s son Ferruccio Lamborghini (Romano Reggiani) returns to the provincial north of Italy in 1945. His dream is to give the world something meaningful. So the talented tinkerer starts making tractors for local farmers that are not only much cheaper, but also more powerful.

His machines designed with care and ingenuity quickly caught on across the country and Ferruccio’s newly founded company became a success. In 1963, Ferruccio (now played by Frank Grillo), now married to Annita (Mira Sorvino), meets Enzo Ferrari (Gabriel Byrne), the mastermind behind the world’s most famous sports car brand.

Lamborghini brazenly complains to Ferrari about his poor shifting behavior, only to be arrogantly rejected by his counterpart – which the aspiring entrepreneur sees as a challenge. He brazenly steals Ferrari’s best engineers and starts designing his own racing car…

Frank Grillo & Gabriel Byrne instead of Antonio Banderas & Alec Baldwin

When we first told you about the film, which was still in preparation at the time, in May 2017, Antonio Banderas was signed on for the title part. Alec Baldwin would play Enzo Ferrari. Michael Radford (“1984”) would direct.

Of all the people mentioned in our article, only screenwriter and Oscar winner Bobby Moresco (“LA Crash”) remained. The New Yorker also took care of the staging of the now finally completed project. The film is based on the book “Ferruccio Lamborghini: La storia ufficiale” by Tonino Lamborghini, the son of the title character.

Instead of Banderas and Baldwin, Frank Grillo, known as the villain Crossbones from Marvel blockbusters such as “Captain America 2”, and “The Usual Suspects” star Gabriel Byrne now star in the lead roles.

Next to them were Oscar winner Mira Sorvino (“Aphrodite’s Love”), Hannah van der Westhuysen from “Fate: The Winx Saga” and Eliana Jones (“Nomis – The Night of the Hunter”) in front of the camera.
