It came as a surprise when it was announced in December 2022 that the wait for a new “Alien” movie would soon be over. It is known that “Evil Dead” creator Fede Alvarez will direct the film, while Cailee Spaeny of “Bad Times At The El Royale” or “Pacific Rim: Uprising” will take the lead role. Plus, it would be a standalone movie set in the “Alien” universe, but stand on its own two feet. Ridley Scott is on board as producer.
Now exclusive via announced that actress Isabela Merced will also star in Fede Alvarez’s Alien. The actress was seen in previous roles in Transformers: The Last Knight, the comedy Just Add a Family, the gritty action film Sicario 2, the adventure Dora and the City of Gold and the Netflix production Sweet Girl. Mercedes also hits the big screen on February 15, 2024 alongside Dakota Johnson and Sydney Sweeney in the Marvel adaptation Madame Web.
The “Alien” saga is expanding
After numerous projects were planned but eventually canceled – for example “Alien 5” from “District 9” creator Neill Blomkamp – the future of the franchise has long been in the balance. Not least because of the fact that Ridley Scott’s prequels “Prometheus – Dark Signs” and “Alien: Covenant” didn’t really impress the box office or the critics. All the better that such a genre-savvy (and often ruthless) filmmaker like Fede Alvarez now has the chance to make an “Alien” movie.
But that’s not all, because a series of “Alien” is currently in production. “Fargo” and “Legion” creator Noah Hawley takes care of this. So the format is in more than talented hands and could also be a very interesting addition to the “Alien” saga. Because the story would take place here on Earth in the near future. Again, Ridley Scott serves as producer, but that doesn’t stop him from lashing out at the series:
