Many may remember the moment of the coffee mug in the eighth season of “Game Of Thrones”, which made waves on the Internet: when shooting a scene, a modern travel mug was forgotten on a table in front of Daenerys, who thus made it to the first broadcast of the series (but was subsequently retouched). Something similar was then repeated with the prequel “House Of The Dragon”, where an amputated finger computer effect was not completed in one shot.
And now the “Game Of Thrones” broadcaster HBO continues this little “tradition” in its latest series hit “The Last Of Us”. In the recently released sixth installment of the video game adaptation, something also crept into view at some point that really shouldn’t be there in the final version – even if you have to look closer in this case than with the two ” Game Of Thrones”. “ series…
“Last Of Us” crew in the snow
The “Last Of Us” error can be found in Episode 6 after a runtime of about twelve and a half minutes. As this bird’s eye view of Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey) make their way across a bridge in snowy Wyoming, you can see on the far left of the photo that the series’ production team has “hid” by a path that branches off and under the snow-covered trees.
However, because the shot captures the entire panorama from such a distance, the people (who are also quite motionless) are actually hard to make out, especially if you’re watching The Last Of Us on a smaller screen. A resourceful Twitter user enlarged the corresponding image area for a post to illustrate these unintentional “guest appearances” and wrote (in response to a tweet from game creator and series co-showrunner Neil Druckmann): “Brilliant episode. However, there is something that you may want to resolve and re-upload. You can see the film crew in this shot.”
Such errors are not uncommon in film and series productions. But the bigger and more popular a project is, the more the fans look at it. And certainly in times of social media, such a faux pas does not remain hidden for long. Whether HBO – as with “Game Of Thrones” – actually responds and retouches the bug for future releases and a new upload to streaming services (and the local provider follows Sky at home) or whether you see the “Last Of Us” Crew take their icy detour to the mushroom apocalypse remains to be seen.
