Akiva Goldsman is back under the Warner umbrella with his company Weed Road, paving the way for two belated sequels. In addition to “I Am Legend 2”, which we have already informed you about separately, it is now finally clear that “Constantine 2” is being worked on. Opposite the industry magazine Akiva Goldsman confirmed that he is working on this project. Constantine, starring Keanu Reeves, was released in 2005.
Not only the protagonist returns for the sequel. As with the first part, Francis Lawrence will also direct. Also involved is JJ Abrams, who has been working for a long time on a possible “Constantine” reboot. But where the sequel is still possible, he interferes in this one.
Thanks Keanu Reeves for “Constantine 2”
But it will be some time before “Constantine 2” can appear. Because Goldsman explained that he is currently still in the process of finding the story. But he did reveal a little bit: The way Keanu Reeves and Francis Lawrence portrayed the coexisting worlds of good and evil in the first film should be reflected in the sequel as well.
According to Goldsman, it is thanks to Keanu Reeves that “Constantine 2” will exist at all. Reeves has always made it clear that this is the character he wants to play again.
A DC movie – but probably completely independent
Interestingly, Constantine 2 is being made under the Warner umbrella, but likely without the involvement of James Gunn and Peter Safran, who now effectively oversee all DC projects and most of them in a shared universe, the DCU. However, Goldsman is now directing his film under the supervision of Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy, who oversee Warner’s entire film division.

For now, don’t expect Constantine 2 to be connected in any way to other DC projects. There has been speculation about a possible closeness to the “Swamp Thing” adaptation announced by Gunn and Safran, as both characters are at home in the same dark corner of DC Comics. “Constantine 2” is probably completely independent of all these DC projects. This also explains why Gunn didn’t mention the movie at all in his announcement, leading fans to fear the sequel wouldn’t happen.
But we will have to be patient until it actually happens. Since Goldsman is clearly in an earlier stage of script development, we’re skeptical that a 2024 release is realistic. We expect a cinema release in 2025 at the earliest. That would be 20 years after the original movie.
