Singer Lisa Marie Presley, only daughter of Elvis and Priscilla Presley, passed away unexpectedly in California at the age of 54.

“It is with a heavy heart that I share the terrible news that my beautiful daughter Lisa Marie has left us,” People magazine said in a statement from her mother, 77-year-old actress Priscilla Presley. “She was the most passionate, strong and loving woman I have ever known.”

Her parents’ love story made headlines around the world: Priscilla’s stepfather was stationed in the US Army in Germany. It was there in 1959 that the then 14-year-old’s fateful first meeting with Elvis, who was doing his military service at the time.

Priscilla has to grow up and finish school before they get married in Las Vegas in May 1967.

Nine months later daughter Lisa Marie was born.

The marriage lasted only six years. After the divorce in 1973, neither parent remarried.

The adult Lisa Marie would later pursue a singing career of her own. But above all, the singer, who has already been divorced four times, made headlines through her private life. At the age of 20, she married in 1988. She had two children with musician Danny Keough: a daughter, Riley Keough (1989), and a son, Benjamin Storm Keough (1992).

Despite the divorce in 1994, Lisa Marie and Danny remained good friends. He played bass in her band and lived in the guest house on her estate in Calabasas, California. Keough reportedly performed CPR after her cardiac arrest until emergency services arrived.

Just 20 days after divorcing Keough, Lisa Marie married the King of Pop, Michael Jackson, and they divorced 18 months later.

During this time, she persuaded Michael to settle the child molestation charges against him out of court and enter rehab. “I believed him that he had done nothing wrong and that he was wrongly accused,” she later told a Jackson biographer. “And yes, I started to fall in love with him. I wanted to save him. I felt I could.”

In 2000, she became engaged to musician John Oszajca.

However, the couple broke up after Lisa Marie met actor Nicolas Cage.

Cage and Presley married in August 2002, but Cage filed for divorce in November.

Lisa Marie married her guitarist and producer Michael Lockwood in 2006, with whom she has two daughters, Harper and Finley. After 10 years of marriage, Presley filed for divorce.

Riley Keough, Presley’s oldest daughter from his marriage to Danny Keough, is now an actress (“Mad Max: Fury Road”).

The son of this marriage, Benjamin Keough, took his own life in 2020 at the age of 27. In an essay for People magazine in 2022, Lisa Marie wrote that she felt “devastated” after her son’s suicide.

Lisa Marie Presley pursued a singing career. In 1997, to mark the 20th anniversary of her father’s death, she released “Don’t Cry Daddy” as a duet.

He later released three albums: To Whom It May Concern (2003), Now What (2005) and most recently Storm & Grace (2012).

When Elvis Presley died in 1977, nine-year-old Lisa Marie became an heir to his fortune, along with her grandfather, Vernon Presley, and great-grandmother, Minnie Mae Hood Presley. By the time she was 25, Presley was the only surviving heir to the estate, then valued at $100 million. In 2005, she sold a majority interest in the property to Industrial Media, but retained control of Elvis’ home, Graceland, which she and her mother, Priscilla, converted into a successful tourist attraction.

Lisa Marie Presley was reported to have been a Scientologist for about twenty years, but resigned in 2014. Her mother, Priscilla, and her daughter, Riley, would remain members of the religion.

A few days ago, mother and daughter were still in the spotlight. Together they attended the Golden Globe Gala on Tuesday evening, January 10, 2022 in Los Angeles. There, actor Austin Butler won the Globe for Best Drama Actor for his lead role in the biopic “Elvis”. In interviews on the red carpet, the Elvis daughter gushed about how aptly Butler portrayed her father.
