When Tiger & Dragon hit theaters in 2000, master director Ang Lee’s martial arts epic (two Oscar-winning directors for Life Of Pi and Brokeback Mountain) became the top-grossing foreign-language film of the time in the US and was nominated for a total of ten Oscars (and also won four trophies). An incredible success story for that time, which is still causing a stir more than 20 years later.

Finally The continued cultural relevance of “Tiger & Dragon” is also reflected in the fact that a series adaptation of the material is now in the works – but not a direct sequel or anything like that to Ang Lee’s film. It is based on the so-called “Crane and Iron” pentalogy by the Chinese author Wang Dulu and it is precisely this that is now being serialized.
Like the American industry magazine reported, Producer/writer Jason Ning (Lucifer, The Expanse) directs Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon series Take care of. Ning is working with production company Sony Pictures Television, for whom he is already working on the Marvel series Silk: Spider Society.
“Tiger & Dragon” on Prime Video?
“Silk: Spider Society” is coming to pay-TV epix (starting January 15, 2023: MGM+) and streaming service Amazon Prime Video as the prelude to a slew of planned “Spider-Man” series from Sony Television. It is quite possible that this will also apply to the series “Tiger & Dragon”, but this has not yet been confirmed. The project itself is still at a very early stage.
But after Michelle Yeoh was named Best Actress at the 2023 Golden Globes, who celebrated her international breakthrough in 2000 with “Tiger & Dragon”, it is quite possible that Jason Ning and Sony will seize the opportunity to praise their project, and a grateful buyer (be it Amazon or someone else) is found for the series. Whether Michelle Yeoh could appear in it is currently uncertain.
