It’s been more than five years since Dr. Oetker caused a sensation with a controversial product. Known for its frozen pizzas, the company launched a pizza that dispensed spirits unlike any of its products before it.

We’re talking about Dr. Oetker’s Chocolate Pizza—a questionable 960-calorie chocolate sauce creation topped with white and dark chocolate chips. The excitement about this extraordinary dessert was great and has stuck in the memory of many people – even if before and after the German company had repeatedly teased it with more or less creative pizzas. Examples are a pasta pizza or a fish finger pizza.

In 2017, when Dr. Oetker launched the chocolate pizza, the company got a lot of buzz on social media. How can you? Who’s going to eat that? And what now? – this is how the criticism of that time can be summed up.

But in the middle of this shit storm, Dr. Oetker’s social media department as a stronghold of acumen and responded to various hater comments in creative and witty ways. One counterattack in particular stuck with many. On his fifth birthday, Dr. Oetkers remembered that.

“Hey Dr. Oetker, your chocolate pizza tastes like an asshole,” a user named Swaglordpredu had been bullying on Twitter at the time – to which Dr. Oetker countered casually, “Have you been greedy and bit your finger?”

Now, five years later, the company is asking on Twitter if the hater is “grown up now.” In the comment column, many users celebrate Dr. Oetker for the tweet from then. “When are you going to get another smashing tweet like that?” one asks. “To date, the biggest slaughter ever on Twitter,” writes another.

The fact that the chocolate pizza was discontinued in 2019 due to lack of demand is also a big topic in the comments. Some write that they miss the pizza and wish for a comeback.

Others are encouraging new creations — such as a Toffifee pizza and a Brussels sprouts pizza — or bemoaning the cancellation of the pizza burger. “Bring back the pizza burger, they didn’t taste like an asshole,” one user demands.
