This is how the lifestyle from the north works

“Kalsarikännit” is probably the reason why Finland is ranked as the happiest country in the world almost every year. Literally translated, wot means “to get drunk at home alone in your underwear.” The best solution to spend the dark winter months happily in the cozy living room.

“You don’t have to pretend inside your own four walls and you can just be who you are. That’s why the furniture can also be colorfully mixed, distinctive and as individual as oneself”, translates the Public Relations Department at Möbel Pfister. The tendency towards individualism and self-determination is more important than ever. This includes the right equipment. The hygge living trend is not so new anymore, but it creates the perfect environment for Kalsarikännit.

It’s getting hyggelig now

Hygge means enveloping or comfortable and is not only a living trend in Denmark, it is also a lifestyle. Anything can be hygge, clothes, food or character. First of all, hyggelig is cuddling with your loved ones by candlelight on the cozy sofa at home when the weather is bad. The feel-good factor comes first to enjoy the moment.

“Natural materials, different textures and warm colors provide the desired comfort,” says Möbel Pfister. The typical flooring style is wooden elements and a few small light sources. For example, a fire in the fireplace and several small lamps in niches and corners. No scented candles – too much of kitsch and unnatural stuff is a good thing. But color is allowed, soft pastel colors, white and gray tones. Blankets, leather or wool materials provide a fluffy base. Freshly brewed tea and baked cake complete the rush of the senses.

Swedes hug to the right degree

In neighboring Sweden, the hygge style is considered a little too casual. There “Lagome” breathes new life and replaces Hygge in Central Europe. Life expert “Schöner Wohnen” explains the new trend: “Comfort, as the Hygge trend in Denmark has taught us in recent years, is also desired in Lagom, albeit not so warmly.”

Ikea’s Swedes describe Lagom as “an up-to-date movement where people make sure they only buy and consume what they really need.” And above all it is sustainable. A Lagom focal point at Ikea is also an aerator for energy-saving lamps, solar systems or a faucet.

Lagom living doesn’t come cheap, that’s not what the concept is about. The device may be a little more expensive, but it looks nice and lasts a long time. It’s in line with the sustainability trend, but no minimalism. “There is no extravagant lifestyle, but high-quality, exclusive and beautiful furniture should bring a healthy balance to everyday life,” explains Möbel Pfister. This means: No unnecessary things, but also no empty shelves.

The design should be stylish, functional and simple. Shapes and colors are still allowed, but calm, neutral tones that coordinate with each other. Lagom applies not only to interior design, but also to interior balance. Doing sports, planning meals and spending time with family in the fresh air should provide satisfaction in all areas of life.
