After just 10 days: “Glass Onion” is already one of the most successful Netflix movies of all time – no competition

So the $450 million was worth it after all: At the end of December 2022, we reported that “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery” was off to a good start on Netflix with a whopping 82 million hours watched, but not outstanding. The new Benoit Blanc crime thriller had only been on Netflix for three days at the time – and a week later it is now clear: “Glass Onion” is one of the biggest Netflix hits ever!

Because between December 26, 2022 and January 1, 2023, another 127 million viewing hours were added, hence “Glass Onion” now stands at 209.4 million total hours – enough to rank 10th in the list of the most watched English-language Netflix movies.

And since Netflix always uses the first 28 days after release for this list, everything indicates that “Knives Out 2” will climb a few more places in the ranking. Calculated from the start date on December 23, 2022, “Glass Onion” will remain until January 20, 2023 to continue accumulating Watch Time. And the following places are within easy reach:

Most-watched English-language Netflix movies of all time:

  1. “Red Notice” (364 million)
  2. “Don’t look up” (360 million)
  3. “Bird Box” (282 million)
  4. “The Gray Man” (254 million)
  5. “The Adam Project” (233 million)
  6. Tyler Rake: extraction (231 million)
  7. “Purple Hearts” (229 million)
  8. “The Unforgivable” (214.7 million)
  9. “The Irishman” (214.6 million)
  10. “Glass Onion” (209 million)

“The Irishman” and “The Unforgivable” at 214 million each will certainly have been overtaken by the time of this article, as will “Purple Hearts” (229 million) and the action hits “Tyler Rake: Extraction” (231 million) and “The Adam Project” (233 million) will still take “Glass Onion”. It remains to be seen if it will also be enough for 4th place (“The Gray Man” with 254 million hours) or even 3rd place, which “Bird Box” currently holds with 282 million hours watched.

After the past week, it is also clear that “Glass Onion” completely dominates the global Netflix charts: The new releases “Matilda – The Musical” (41 million hours watched) and “White Noise” (15 million) are far behind places 2 and 4. And in third place “Knives Out” managed almost 17 million hours of viewing time. The great interest in “Glass Onion” also ensures that the predecessor is being looked at diligently.

In any case, Netflix will be able to post “Glass Onion” as a success and many crime fans out there are surely already excited to see how “Knives Out 3” continues. Could Daniel Craig really face the Muppets as some are asking?
