Google has announced which films and series were most searched for in Germany in 2022 – and in addition to the expected Netflix hits (“Dahmer”) and cinema highlights (“Top Gun: Maverick”), there are also some real surprises. Do you want an example? The MCU Movie”Eternals“, which had only 770,000 viewers in Germany – A fraction of Spider-Man: No Way Home’s 4.6 million viewers, but not in the top 10 at all.
The contrast is less with “Thor 4: Love And Thunder” (1.8 million tickets sold, #7 on the list) and “Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness” (2.2 million, not on the list). But here too you see very well: The number of people who see a film in the cinema does not necessarily correspond to the number of people who google for this film.
“House Of The Dragon” Far Ahead Of “The Rings Of Power”
In any case, this can be seen in rudiments, but also in the series: For example, “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Powerdoes not even appear in the top 10 list of most searched series in Germany (Not in the global top 10, by the way), though the series feels on par with viewer interest “House of the Dragon” (seat 3) lay. In any case, the figures from the US show that both series were watched approximately equally.
And it’s also quite a surprise that the high school drama series “Euphoria” is well ahead of the only Marvel series in the ranking (“Moon Knight”) and the Prime Video hit “The Boys”.
Netflix dominates most searched series & movies
Less surprising, however, is that Netflix secured the top two most searched series. Finally, thanks to the viewing figures of the streaming service during the year, it was very understandable that the two-part fourth season”Weird stuff“(2nd Place) and the Serial Killers Series”Dahmer – monsters” (1st place) met with enormous interest.
Apparently, unlike the movies, there was a lot of googling. At the moment, we predict that by the end of 2023, a certain series called “Wednesday” will be at the top of the Google list…
Number 1 in the films also goes to a Netflix title: “Don’t look up“ with Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence, among others, started in 2021, but also caused the most Google searches in 2022. Incidentally, the interest of search engines here also correlates with the interest in Netflix: With almost 360 million viewing hours in the first 28 days, “Don ‘t Look Up” the second most viewed English-language Netlfix film.
